SITUMET - situation-based ubiquitous meteorological services

mobile devices The aim of the research project SITUMET is the development of a new generation of meteorological services based on innovative, regionally specific forecasting modules within the framework of an open platform. These services are ubiquitous and situation-dependent, i.e., available in and for each location in whatever required resolution regarding time, location and content. On the basis of the technology developed in the research project, weather information will be actively or passively available to suit an extremely wide range of areas of application, systems and end devices. As well as the classic possibilities of providing information in relation to the individual, it will also be possible to control telematics (e.g., vehicle and household technology), to feed information into other systems (e.g., navigation systems, electronic advertising boards, kiosk systems etc.) or applications (e.g., Google Earth, augmented reality applications).

The individual-related supply of information is further extended by the concept of situationalization, whereby the customer receives customized weather information dependent on his respective situation (e.g., location, means of transport, activity) and his general profile (e.g., profession, age). In the case of systems, the current system state (e.g., vehicle speed and route, or energy storage condition in a passive house) can be described using an analogue situation model of the current system state, which determines the demand for certain information regarding the weather.
